Just got back from an amazing Cancun trip. Started off trying to fly fish off the guide boat but very hard to do with one fly fishing and one casting light tackle so I switched it up to light tackle casting.

Our guide was fantastic. Not only did he like fishing but his family was also connected to the Mexican Kendo Federation….what are the chances.

Day one we fished the lagoon area right by our resort and our guide hooked into a nice tarpon that he let Shannon bring in. We also got a bunch of smaller barracuda and we got to see a couple of nice permit follow the lures to the boat.

The next day Kim our guide offered to take us to Isla Blanca which is a bit remote. Ended up being the absolute highlight of the trip. Remote Cancun fishing hooking into some fish in a very pristine area. Although we only hooked into Barracuda, the fish were larger and there were other opportunities to hook into other fish. Saw some stingrays and a shark also swam by the boat as well. 

Finally some time to tie some chronies!

Nothing like spending a couple of days in the cold on the Thompson.

All good today. Lots of chum and some fresh wild and hatchery coho on the fly. Only problem was when the big chum peeled off my 10 wgt. fly line with with sinking tip and it snaps off right at the backing. There goes some moola.

Best sturgeon story yet. Hooked into one of these bad boys beneath the Alex Fraser but my reel broke. Ended up getting Bobber to hold on to line while I splice the line to another rod. In the meantime Bobber had to fight the jumping sturgeon with his bare hands. Note: no humans or sturgeon were hurt in the battle.
