21 fishing derby – great weekend
4 06 2018This last weekend was our 21 badger lake/Grimshaw classic which took place at Roche lake.
The derby consisted of 30 guys this year. Saturday was very windy and guys were I to fish from trolling flies to indicator fishing but fish seemed to be on the constant move. Saturday produced a couple of fish I. The three lb range.
On Sunday as usual the trophy fish were caught. I. 21 years the winning fish is always caught on the Sunday and this year was no exception . Doug took first place dangling a micro leech under and indicator weighing in at 4lb 10oz. Trev (Tbone) got second place with a 3lb15oz beauty and Kenny with one just a half ounce less.
Other nice fish were caught by Brian and Mark (who might have let a second or third placer go). Jamie, Orson, Harry also weighed in fish between 2-3.2 lbs.
Many other nice fish were caught and released with Brian probably having the best individual day and Kirby and Doug having a great numbers day on saturday.
Thanks to John Kent, Mark and Brian for tying up some flies for prizes.
As well to rob for the carved trophy.

First trip for the season
21 05 2018Was able to get out on the water this weekend. Headed up to the Thompson plateau for a couple of days. No snow this time but instead wind.
Day one consisted of hurricane winds so trolled around looking for fish and stopped every once in awhile to strike indicator fish. Fishing for us was slow but kirby managed to hook into three fish. One which was about four lbs but he is blaming it on the net man for the short line release:
Day two wind died down a bit but ended up being slower for us. Fished morning to late afternoon and hooked into a bunch a fish but overall slow. We trolled leeches and indicator fished with micros, pheasant tails and chironomids but no luck. Stayed away from the group of thirty boats but apparently that is where the fishing was only.
Coming back in two weeks so hopefully can tie into some more fish so stay tuned.

Time and patience
19 03 2018Two words that could not be more important when one ruptures his Achilles right at the start of some great river fishing. The good news is that the fly box will be full, the tackle boxes organized, the boats all tuned up and more importantly, I should at least be ready for ice off on the lakes.
The rebel fiberglass just got a new fiberglass job and paint job. The jet boat just got a new front seal and steering cable. Just need to finish transom on rebel add keel protector and mats.

A picture of me at the National Museum in Steveston – Gulf of Georgia Cannery
22 02 2018Came across this picture of me from 1985 or 1986 when I was working on a commercial fishing boat in Haida Gwaii with my grandfather. The commercial troller was called the Koki M. Apparently the picture along with the display is touring Canada.
