Bday tradition.

4 07 2022

Every year I try to get out for a bday fishing trip. This weekend spent two days on the Fraser. Day one with kids but the tide was not great so only caught sun rays . Second day was also slow but evening high tide seemed to be the Trick. Just before sun down manages to hook into three fish. Two 5-6 footer and one really large one that jumped and looked to be 8-9 fr.

We chased it for a bit o my to have it snap off right at the boat. Good times and good buddies.

Oops forgot to post an epic trip.

2 06 2022

Was invited to spend four days in the Cariboo with Istvan and bcflytieguys. (Check out their flies on Facebook!)

Fished two lakes over the four days. Lots of great fish and good laughs. This year for me has been interesting. So far my boat has blown away at the launch and this trip fell into the lake!

Falling in lake story- so as u can see there are big fish in these lakes. While chironomiding with my new custom Able and new linear 10/4 rod I took a break to do something and put my rod between my legs. Just as I did I feel my rod move and all of a sudden I see my rod in the air! With my cat like reflexes I went to grab my rod with one hand in gunnel and one leg bracing myself under the non secured seat. In a flash I feel my self summersaulting off the seat and rolling right into the lake. While in the lake and holding on to the boat I have to make a quick decision to swim for bobbing rod or get back into the boat. Since I was wearing waders I decided to get back into the boat. For about five minutes we see the fish jumping with the line and rod still attached and it looks to be a 3-4 lb rainbow. After removing my wet clothes I come to the realization that my set up is gone. Fifteen minutes later a guy yells he found a rod as it was bobbing by his boat. Thinking it was his rod because he had the same rod he grabs it and plays the fish that is still hooked.

Thankfully my rod set up was returned by a friendly guy who went to grab the rod for me and thankfully it was an nice warm day.

Lesson learned…:.hold onto rod or put rod into a rod holder when fishing!

Some more nice fish pics.

Some recent photos of some beauty trout caught by buddies. nice fish boys!

23rd annual derby.

31 05 2022

Well after two years of cancelled derbies the Badger Lake Classic was back on and to celebrate getting back into the swing of things we headed back to the badger lake area, staying at Knouff lake resort. This years derby was unlike any other as there were four lakes that fly fisher people could fish.

Grateful to have all the buddies come together to fly fish, banter and connect. Cheers to more fishing days and looking forward to the next derby….ok that’s a lie…looking forward to my 9 day summer river fly fishing trip coming up in a couple of months. Stay tuned.

Outstanding weekend!

Roof top set up

Digging my roof top boat set up with outboard motor mount/

Hopefully adding the 5 extra hp won’t wreck my gas mileage!

Stump lake

2 05 2022

Managed to getaway with Bcflytieguy Mark to the Merritt region. Fishing started out amazing but slowed down as the day went on. Lots of fish caught but mostly by mark who managed to land about 20 including five good sized rainbows and one Kokanee. As for me, I landed half as much but all were small fish. This was my first time fishing this lake but will be back. Always fun to try new lakes. Marks maroon and black micro jig headed leech seemed to be the best fly but fish were caught on a variety of micro leeches as well as the good old pheasant tail nymph.

Happy to have been able to make this my 6 day out and it is only the beginning of May. Can’t wait until my four day cariboo trip and annual derby which will take place at the end of May!

Ice off

24 04 2022

Well hit kamloops area and two lakes in Merritt region. Fishing as expected was slower due to ice just coming off but still managed to get into fish.

Was able to land a few on day one mostly in black leeches with red and pink heads.

Second day hit two lakes in Merritt. First lake landed a nice one on a anaconda pink boobie. Mark and flyfishoholic landed one as well.

Third lake only mark landed a couple.

Overall fishing was slow but still a good time fishing with buddies.

Ice off….

28 03 2022

Headed off to Kamloops as we heard a couple of the lower lakes might be ice free or close to ice free. Drove four hours to fish five hours only to drive four hours back all in the same day.

Fishing was slow but we both managed to hook into some fish and land a bunch as well.

Day 2

16 03 2022

The day looked promising as it was windy and over cast. The only downfall was the low water temperature. Todays ended up at the same beach but this time we were not alone but rather fishing amongst 30 other fisher people.

Morning landed four fish.

Trev broke off a big one and got into a few.

Our guide Mike Curtis was awesome. Switching up flies and giving us two handed lessons while we indicated for these huge fish. Got to try long casting a 12 ft 7 wgt rod was also fun and was able to land one fish on this system stripping in small streamers.

What I found also exciting was the fact that these large fish take such small flies and can be seen cruising and porpoising the shallows

In the end we landed 29 Lahotan summit cutties over two days. Had a spectacular guide and got to fish an amazing lake. Snuck in some golf and gambling (even won some money back on last night) Thanks to fishing buddy TBone for joining me on this bucket list trip. Good times and can’t wait until we come back. Reno did not disappoint. Maybe next time it might have to be a fins skins and snowboarding trip.
