Always Be Prepared!

22 06 2024

Well today we tried something different from the usual routine. Instead of heading up to the Kamloops or Cariboo Region we headed south to Washington State in search of Brown Trout.

Although the morning was slow, later in the afternoon Cassidy noticed a tree that was dropping caterpillars on to the lakes surface. Noticing this he switched to a dry fly. Instantly he was into a couple of fish landing a nice Brown and a nice rainbow.

After trolling across the lake in search of fish, I finally join Cassidy. I put on a dry and in no time I entice a fish but miss it. a second fish hooks up but it comes loose in some weeds. Keep in mind the water we are fishing is 6 inches to one foot deep.

Because the tree dropping caterpillars was right beside the boat launch fishing was turned off so we moved and fished the adjacent shoreline.

Shortly afterwards I notice some trout feeding aggressively on the surface so toss the dry over to the fish. Missed one bite but then managed to hook into the second bite and landed a nice spotted bow.

Although we didn’t”t land a lot of fish it was sure cool tossing dries in still water for trout which were feeding on caterpillars falling from a tree in 6 inches of water.

This was a first for me and a good reminder to always have some dries on hand. Although we only landed a few it was very cool to land some Stillwater fish on dries and also catch a Brown trout.

The day ended having oysters and shrimp at a Roadside Shrimp joint.

Good times.

While the rest of us chill out on Father’s Day weekend, a couple of buddies tapped into some nice fish.

25th annual derby

4 06 2024

This past weekend marks 25 years of getting together with these buddies to engage in some campfire fun and fly fishing.

In the past this derby has been hosted at Badger, Roche, Tunkwa, Watch, Hatheume and Fawn.

Although many late nights were had, everyone managed to catch fish with the largest being 3.74 going to Iceman and Scott landing a 2.63 followed by the Bcflytie guys coming third and fourth.

Weather held out and knouff lake resort stay hosted an amazing dinner!

Good times and a big thank you to all the guys who have been coming out year after year to fly fish and hang out.

Cariboo Day Three

20 05 2024

Slower overall today but buddies managed to hook into some fish. Chironomids and pheasant tails worked well but scooter hooked a bunch on boobies.

Day two – Cariboo Fishing.

19 05 2024

Although the weather has been somewhat u stable with snow, wind, hail, rain and sun over the past two days, a lot of fish have been brought in.

Mostly pheasant tails as there was a huge may fly hatch but also on chironomids of any size or colour.

Day one broke off a really big one in the 6is category but today managed to land a few decent ones.

Bite was o. At one point and out is five boats someone had a fish on at one point over a couple ur hatch.

Here are a few pics. Not many taken as it was busy.

Finally!

12 05 2024

Well the fish gods have finally given me permission to get out after needing to get my trailer bearings fixed, outboard motors tuned up and more recently a new radiator and water pump in my fish mobile.

As usual my first trip was a short day trip to a favourite lake but this time brought along a newbie to fly fishing as well as Mark from Bcflytie Guys

Fishing was steady all day but again mark out on a clinic landing over dozens of fish for the day(and it was a short day!)

Our boat hooked into a couple dozen fish but more importantly got the newbie hooked into indicator fishing.

Such a beautiful and action packed day in this amazing local area.

First catch for 2024

22 04 2024

Great to get out on the water for the first time this year. Boat and trailer are good to go and although I am dying to get out to experience still water ice off, it was still a good feeling to land one of these local fighters.
