Cariboo Fall Fishing 2024

4 10 2024

Epic four days in the Cariboo. Boobies and leeches were the ticket for me!

Although I haven’t gotten out as much as I would have liked due to work and life, I am looking forward to my November trip which I am planning on hitting Pyramid Lake in Reno Nevada with Cassidy. 2-3 days fishing the lake and one guided trip on the Truckee River. Stay tuned!

Hopefully between now and then I can get out and swing flies for salmon and tie into so more sturgeon!

Fall fishing in the Cariboo

23 09 2024

Spending some amazing fall fishing up in the Cariboo this weekend: I usually only come up here in summer but this year me and a buddy were able to spend four fishing days up in this beautiful country.

The first day we hit a favourite lake and the two of us landed a dozen each. The fish started off all around 18 inches but as the day carried on the fish got bigger with the last half a dozen fish tipping the scales closer to 4-5 lbs.

The second day was even better with over 25 fish each and all bigger. Started to get into the horsefly strain which was a lot of fun!

Day three we hit our secret lake and man was it outstanding. A local buddy joined us and between the three of us we got into 50 lunkers.

I landed 21 and lost a bunch. All the fish were caught on large black/purple leeches and all between 3-5 lbs. the difference was that these fish all fought extremely hard. Love it when you are out to your backing and your line stretches out across the lake as the fish darts back and forth across the surface. Fishing is so good we decided to stay one more day so stay tuned.

Wine butter and clams

15 08 2024

Ok this was a first.

Early today we checked out another beach on this island and came across a couple of fossil mud balls: If the dating of these mud balls are the same as inland, if there is something inside they can be as old as 60 million years old!

Clamming

14 08 2024

As a Richmonite, we might have fishing opportunities but not very often we get to forage for clams and oysters. Todays catch we found an open and safe area to harvest some clams and oysters.

Digging for about 30 minutes we got our quota of clams. Mostly butter and little necks.

Soaking them in freshwater to eat tonight as Rebeca has promised to make a Spanish clam dish consisting of butter, wine, flour and some herbs. Stay tuned!

Denman

14 08 2024

Now camping on Denman at a Hip Camp on a 140 year old farm. Amazing. Foraged berries today and planning on clamming tomorrow. Stay tuned. Also checked out a winery today.

Island three and four.

14 08 2024

After canoeing headed back to fish for pinks and coho from the shores of Campbell River but the wind and tides did not work out in our favour. So decided to make our way to hornby Island and check out Tribune bay.

Amazing place
