Always Be Prepared!

Well today we tried something different from the usual routine. Instead of heading up to the Kamloops or Cariboo Region we headed south to Washington State in search of Brown Trout.

Although the morning was slow, later in the afternoon Cassidy noticed a tree that was dropping caterpillars on to the lakes surface. Noticing this he switched to a dry fly. Instantly he was into a couple of fish landing a nice Brown and a nice rainbow.

After trolling across the lake in search of fish, I finally join Cassidy. I put on a dry and in no time I entice a fish but miss it. a second fish hooks up but it comes loose in some weeds. Keep in mind the water we are fishing is 6 inches to one foot deep.

Because the tree dropping caterpillars was right beside the boat launch fishing was turned off so we moved and fished the adjacent shoreline.

Shortly afterwards I notice some trout feeding aggressively on the surface so toss the dry over to the fish. Missed one bite but then managed to hook into the second bite and landed a nice spotted bow.

Although we didn’t”t land a lot of fish it was sure cool tossing dries in still water for trout which were feeding on caterpillars falling from a tree in 6 inches of water.

This was a first for me and a good reminder to always have some dries on hand. Although we only landed a few it was very cool to land some Stillwater fish on dries and also catch a Brown trout.

The day ended having oysters and shrimp at a Roadside Shrimp joint.

Good times.
